MANUKA OVAL THE FIRST LIGHTING TOWER LIFT

MANUKA OVAL THE FIRST LIGHTING TOWER LIFT

First of the towers was erected safely today at Manuka Oval.

Anticipation was high on the site with many of the projects “champions” from the ACT Government who were present including Ron Maginness, Hamish McNulty & Peter Rea. No anticipation was greater then on the Minister for Sport within the ACT Government Andrew Barr. Minister Barr’s leadership and forsite was paramount in the design of the systems that we will see in action in the near future.

With the use of BKB Rigging Services and RAR Group 20tonne franner, 100tonne crane and the mighty 200tonne crane it was all systems go from 6am after our on site pre start meeting. The head frame and mast being connected seamlessly the pole was ready for lift prior to lunch. With any lift of this size there are a few moments when our hearts were in our mouths however it went up like everyone had planned and was in place probably 10 minutes after the “go ahead” was given. A big congratulations to the team from ABACUS in the United Kingdom who are represented on site by Dean Hargraves who was a integral part of the lifting team. His knowledge was outstanding. Also to DIALIGHT ILS Australia represented by Greg Sutton whom has worked tirelessly on the project. As you can see from the photos, Ian Smith from Cox Architecture has chosen a beautiful design, in what will be a signature look for Australian Rules Football and cricket in the ACT.
