KURINGA DRIVE – TRAFFIC & STREET LIGHTING UPGRADE

Affinity Electrical won a hard-fought tender to provide Street Lighting, and Traffic Signals upgrade on the intersection of Kuringa drive & Owen Dixon Drive in Spence ACT. This intersection had been earmarked for traffic signals due to its high volume of vehicle movement; the intersection is also on a corner for motorists entering.

This intersection was AET’s first opportunity to perform a Dim BY Wire – an extra-low voltage traffic signals installation that is safer for first responders should an accident occur involving a traffic signal. For the first time utilising Channell pits for reticulation, this intersection had a couple of first for the AET project team to consider. AET picked up noticed a slated speed increase on the roadway, taking some lanterns from 200mm to 300mm, which we picked up early in the design review and saved problems in commissioning later.

This project proved to be the feather in the cap between AET and BMD. AET shortly after was awarded the electrical services package, again Traffic Signals and Street Lighting on the much larger William Slim duplication. We look forward to working with BMD again on that project.
