Lowanna Street light poles and cabling – TCCS

Due ongoing issues with the street light electrical supply in Lowanna Street, AET was asked to tender in two packages for the replacement of the supply cable in between each streetlight, being a new span of 1.5 km.

AET was required to remove the old Evo Energy substation switching mechanism and install a new supply with open points to restrict the possibility of back feeds into the new cable system. We partnered with TCCS, which supplied the new streetlight poles and light fittings. AET provided all underground services conduit, cable, and reinstatement along the full length of Lowanna Street in Braddon.

The main concern on the project was a High Pressure Gas main feeding Canberra City, which runs along Lowanna Street. AET engaged Wagga Directional Drilling to use a huge Dry Vac machine, which is similar to hydro vac but uses high pressure air to vacuum out the dirt, to allow AET to work safely around the High Pressure Gas main.

Lowanna Street is a busy, narrow road, so AET conducted community consultation and coordinated with the locals to gain access to the two-lane street, while also coordinating vehicle traffic and heavy pedestrian usage during the installation. AET managed all aspects of access in the area for safe egress for all stakeholders.
